Matt Liotine is a venture advisor and management consultant whose broad background encompasses nearly 40 years of experience in management roles in operations, product management, technology, innovation, systems engineering and development, and as a business owner. He is certified in Private Company Board Governance from the Private Directors Association. He has worked with and advised companies in numerous industries including manufacturing, retail, chemical, CPG, financial, health, information technology, telecommunications, broadcast and government. Matt is Vice President of BLR Research, a management consulting firm, where he specializes in strategic advising and coaching in the areas of supply chain, operations management, data analytics and innovation. He is also Professor of Information & Decision Sciences at the College of Business Administration of the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, he is the Director of Graduate Studies in Supply Chain & Operations Management. He has advised, coached and trained thousands of industry professionals from across the globe.

Matt’s career began working in a systems engineering role in the chemical industry for Linde Gas, then a subsidiary of Union Carbide. He later moved into a similar role at AT&T Bell Laboratories, pioneering new technologies serving the telecom industry. At AT&T, he later progressed to a product management role with P&L responsibility for developing a new product line of wireless systems that were distributed worldwide. He spearheaded several new technology innovations, breaking through corporate barriers. While in that role, he was responsible for developing alliances with major companies across the globe. Because of his ability to innovate and build alliances, he served as a director of new business venture opportunities for markets external to the telecom industry. In this role, he developed expertise in  proving-in the viability of new ventures and innovations. He later moved into the consulting industry, working for several firms to develop their technology related practices. His clients included Fifth Third Bank, Fleet Bank, ABC, Fox, and WisDOT, among others.

In his current role as an advisor and consultant, Matt coaches small and mid-size companies to develop growth initiatives relative to their product offerings, focusing on manufacturing, retail and health. Furthermore, in his role at the University of Illinois, he works with startup, small, medium and large enterprises to guide new products and forward-looking technology innovations that engage early talent. He has worked on over 100 new projects across a variety of industries with companies that include Kellogg’s, DHL, SAP, Bosch, Protiviti, UI Health, Cook County, AbbVie, Walgreens, among others. Furthermore, he works to coach young new startups to develop their technology related products from prototype to MVP stage.

In addition to being a proven advisor, Matt has grown to become an effective board member working with several new startups (Coinifide, Ledger Solutions) and led boards designed to assist several major corporations on strategic technology issues. They include Accenture, Oracle, Wells Fargo and Baird Capital. Matt has been renowned as a “true innovator” who has a unique ability to “work with enterprises of all sizes in the area of innovating businesses with process improvement and technology,” and works with companies to “engage their products in new forward-looking projects.”

Matt holds several professional certifications, including Sigma Master Black Belt. He is the recipient of numerous industry and academic awards, and holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University. He is the co-author of a new book entitled Technology in Supply Chain Management and Logistics: Current Practice and Future Applications published by Elsevier.
